Often during adaptations of a work, changes occur to better fit the new form of media. This is due to budgets, allotted time for production, or even a director with a different vision. In the musical reimagining of A Bronx Tale, certain features of the movie changed to fit the stage. The most notable change between the movie and musical was the tone. The different tone of the musical influenced other aspects of the show.
The theater production that I am going to be watching and review which is the footlik theater Des Plaines which present and put on the production of the Foreigner written by Larry Sue and directed by Tim Curtis. The theater production play the foreigner was presented at Footlik theater Des Plaines campus on Friday, March, 10, 2017. My Opinion of production of overall preformation would enjoyable and engaging for the theater audience in attendance. The basic plot of the play foreigner is about rural fishing lodge in Georgia with people have two faces saying thing that on their mind when they think there one is around. A Raisin in the Sun PBA Unit 2 Cinematography and filmmaking are art forms completely open to interpretation in many ways such lighting, the camera as angles, tone, expressions, etc. By using cinematic techniques a filmmaker can make a film communicate to the viewer on different levels including emotional and social. Play writes include some stage direction and instruction regarding the visual aspect of the story. In this sense, the filmmaker has the strong basis for adapting a play to the big screen. “A Raisin in the Sun” is a play by Lorraine Hansberry that debuted on Broadway in 1959.
The first chapter “Going to the Movies: Early Audiences” deals with the arousing interest in nickelodeons, the first theatres which showed silent movies, in the beginning of the 20th century. Beginning with the promotion of the new entertainment form, that was mainly oriented on the middle class, but other social classes could watch movies due to the affordable and cheap ticket prices. Furthermore, the author states that the nickelodeon owners lured the citizens in the movie theatres with advertisements and special effects like music. That is to say that they managed to manipulate consumers with placards, toys and gifts. As a result is that the movie theatres were crowded with people related to the joy the medium gave to the audience.
The late 19th century consisted of rigid work hours for children, the growth of strikes, and the use of yellow journalism. It was a challenging time for anyone below the upper class to live in. This is demonstrated throughout Newsies, a Broadway Musical displaying the challenges from this time period. Child labor, a major part of the movie, was the way of life and consisted of young children doing hard work as a vital part of the nation’s economy and income of families of the time. Another part of the movie, strikes, were the people’s way of refusing to work as a result of not getting their desires.
The film 13th directed by Ava DuVernay targets an intended audience of the Media and the three branches of the United States government with an emphasis that mass incarceration is an extension of slavery. It is intended to inform viewers about the criminalization of African Americans and the United States prison boom. 13th uses rhetorical devices in its claim to persuade the viewers by using exemplum in the opening seconds of the film. President Barack Obama presents statistics, saying “the United States is home to 5% of the world’s population but is home to 25% of the world’s prisoners.” Also the film uses a hyperbole in talking about the movie Birth of a Nation produced in 1915 which portrays a black man as a violent savage who will kill white women.

Many of these changes were a direct result of the youth culture of the time and how their uncertainty of who they were helped contribute to these changes in values. At the start of the scene, the lighting is dark so the viewers can’t see the Sapphires are the crowd, but they can see the band in the background so they can tell The Sapphires are about to sing. The rest of the scene the lighting is dark in the background so we can only see the band and The Sapphires, so we pay attention to what is happening. Since this scene is the Sapphires singing the only sound in this scene is Gail and the three girls singing. This sets the scene because the song they are singing is sad and gloomy, the Director wanted the viewers to feel their pain. The Director using an editing technique that looks like the camera is moving from the position in one second but without it being filmed.
The show Band of Brothers was produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks who, at the time, recently had success with a World War II film entitled Saving Private Ryan. Spielberg and Hanks used their expertise on war films to craft the exceptional television series Band of Brothers which originally aired on HBO in 2001. The show follows “Easy” Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, of the 101st Airborne Division, from the moment they begin their training to the moment their deployment ends. Throughout the show we see the men of “Easy” Company mature a thousand times over. The men experience love, loss, and death at rate that is inconceivable to someone that has never experienced the theatre of war.
The dramatic and uplifting movie “Radio” starring Cuba Gooding JR. and Ed Harris, is based on the true life story of James Robert Kennedy, a k a Radio; a mentally retarded young African-American who spends his days pushing a shopping cart around the streets of Anderson, a small South Carolina town, collecting junk and old radios. The movie starts with the heartbreaking scene of Radio pushing his cart around the town, in his own little world; people are ignoring him, and a lady pulls her daughter out of the way, running towards the opposite sidewalk. Every day Radio walks by the school, watching the football team training.
I watched Sound and Fury, a documentary that came out in 2000, centered on the complications of getting the Cochlear Implant, and how Deaf and hearing communities can differ upon the topic. Particularly within one family, brothers along with their wives and parents have a tough time deciding if their Deaf children should undergo such a procedure. They all travel to visit families that are hearing with children who aren’t learning ASL because they have the implant. They visit a Deaf family whose 10-year daughter is the only person in the family to get the implant. They also visit schools focusing on speech to help Deaf children who wear hearing aids and/or got the Cochlear Implant, and visit a Deaf community with a school focused on ASL.
Split is a 2016 thriller film written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan. The movie follows Kevin Wendell Crumb, a man who faced abuse as a child and now suffers from dissociative identity disorder. Kevin lives with 23 different identities, with “Barry” being the main. Throughout the film he exhibited a power struggle between the identities, with “Dennis” taking over as the lead.
