This controversial books chapter “The Trip” includes many actions and meanings, but the emotional response of panic, fear, and adrenaline is one that the reader sees immediately, the reputation that the traditional woman holds vs. the modern woman can be detected; nevertheless, it conveys a powerful meaning as well. The common ground of family is important because it helps the reader connect with the book on an emotional level that is unbreakable. Finally, the selectiveness of the conversation bubbles, color, and letter size emphasizes the meaning of the book as a whole. Throughout the chapter not once does it show either one of the Mother, Father, or Marjane separated it always showed them together even if they were it was only for a brief moment. At times like these family is what is most important the unity and safety, which the author manages to imply very well. When the protests came about things got bad really quick in one scene it shows the mother and father and Marjane running away with a crowd of people behind them with the father stating “Every man for himself!” Everything has a purpose in a graphic novel no matter how big or small it all ties together. Contained within the Chapter these selective things are minute but noticeable such as the conversation bubbles, and the type of letter size. The conversation bubbles are spiked which show panic Marjane is scared to see that woman get stabbed, urgency the need to get out of the hostile area before they get injured, and violence when the men so brutally beat the women who refused to wear the veil. The most important of all the letters most of them were normal but when the words were bolded it’s immediately followed by some sort of violence or
