A. Business Concept Instead of scheduling the traditional four 15 week courses that meet 3 hours a week each, I would offer courses in one month intervals. This would consist of one class meeting for three weeks at three hours a day, five days a week and the fourth week being considered a transitional break. The fourth week would not be considered a “finals” week. Any required final exam would need to be taken on the third Friday of the course (the last class day) during the normal class period. This would leave the transition week open for teachers to input final grades.

THHS implements a program which emphasizes mastery in the humanities, math and science, with an emphasis on the classics, and requires its students to display the leadership skills, discipline and work ethic expected by the most demanding colleges and careers. All classes are honors, Advanced Placement or college-level, and advanced elective courses are available in all subjects. The school strives to implement their humanities-based approach to excellence through extensive literature and writing courses, advanced courses and electives in English, social studies, modern and classical languages, math, science, social science and science research, as well as a required Queens College humanities seminar. All students are required to study two years of classical Greek or Latin. Students take eight academic subjects each semester, one more than the usual high school program.

I’ve been lucky enough to been advised by some of the best staff at their Interamerican campus. From their advisement office to their profoundly knowledgeable professors. As a current student of ENC1102, we were required to attend one section with a tutor at the writing center. I always thought I had sufficient knowledge of the English language and taking time out of my busy schedule to attend a section with a tutor was absurd.

According to Good Shepherd Services (GSS) website ((Good Shepherds Services), their transfer school program has been developed in 50/50 partnership with the NYC Department of Education (DOE). This program serves young people between the ages of 16 and 21 who dropped out of school and think of coming back (usually over-age students); students who were not successful in regular school and off-track to graduating before they turn 21; usually students who enroll into the transfer school program have 50% less credits they would normally need to graduate on time.
