Abortion is amongst one of the most controversial topics in the United States of America. With an incalculable population on both sides, abortion is one of the most common debates we know. Both have their valid arguments, with pro life arguing how abortion is in the same caliber as murder and pro choice using scientific data to prove that a fetus is not a human being. There are countless arguments as to why people are pro choice and pro life in terms of abortions. (2015), 48% of the population of the debate forum concerning abortion is pro-life. It is definitely a highly controversial topic when both sides have almost an equal amount of supporters. Those who are advocates of pro-life strongly use the religious arguments to justify their disapproval of abortion. “Abortion is the killing of a human being, which defies the word of God” is a great example of a frequently used religious argument according to Should Abortion Be Legal? (2015, August 27). This particular debate forum explains the action as a sin per words of the bible in terms of the killing of another human being. This same forum also mentions the disapproval for the decision of the case Roe v. Wade. Roe v. Wade was the famous case that led to the onset of abortion rights. The opinion on this group is based on the grounds of our country being founded on freedom and emphasizing the demand for respect of our rights as not only U.S citizens, but human beings as well. It is stated in Should Abortion Be Legal? (2015, August 27), that the United States supreme court declared abortion a fundamental right on Jan 22, 1973 after the case of Roe v. Wade. This is undeniably one of the strongest arguments held by those who are pro-choice since it paved the way for abortion rights. Mentioned also in this forum is the concept of women empowerment that is supported when referring to the right to make decisions concerning their own body. In addition to those two strong arguments, they also make an effort to include a strong scientific fact.
