Being Your Better Self Becoming better benefits a bunch of beings. When you become better, you may not know it, but people around you benefit from you trying to improve. This happens to the main protagonist, Santiago because he strives to become better and everyone and everything’s lives around him improve as well. In the novel, The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho, Santiago learns, “When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better, too.” To begin, King Melchizedek tries to become better, and in return Santiago becomes better.
In life a single event can dramatically change a person forever, but how they survive determines what matters the most. In Night by Elie Wiesel and The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, two characters named Elie and Santiago are placed in life altering situations where they must figure out how to persevere. The dramatic book, Night, recounts the reprehensible treatment that Elie had to live through during the Holocaust. Elie endures horrible conditions in a Nazi concentration camp and learns survival. He chooses to separate himself from his negative experiences and still have hope.
Fahrenheit 451 when anyone hears this tittle they think of greatness. The book,written by Ray Bradbury,was such a success that they decided to make a movie on it. Although having the same ideas,they are very different. This is not the type of book that you can watch the movie and pass your test. I'm going to be,comparing and contrasting the book and the movie
Fahrenheit 451 is a book written by Ray Bradbury that describes a time in the future when all literature is forbidden. Books are a rare sight and if they are owned by a person they can be placed under arrest. Firemen are called in to reported houses that contain books to burn the house down. Firemen have rules such as, answer the alarm quickly, start the fire quickly, burn everything, report back to the firehouse immediately, stay alert for next alarm. Guy Montag is a fireman who enjoys starting the fires.
“The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho is about a boy named Santiago. He wanting to pursue his personal legend, but for him to accomplish his personal legend he first has to go on a journey that will take him to new places. The hero’s journey idea is that if you stay dedicated to what you want to do, the universe will help you succeed in the act that you're trying to achieve. Santiago’s call to adventure when he heard about the pyramids and it inspired him to become a shepherd.
Ray Bradbury shows a clear hatred towards the civilization of fahrenheit 451 for quite a few reasons. Such as the ideas of intellectual books being banned and replaced with movies and videos that require no one to put an thought and just be mindlessly fed information by the government. We know this because the book fahrenheit 451 came out a bit after the end of WWII and hitler burned books like in F451 and the tv age was beginning where many people were buying tvs and less books Bradbury feared this could end the creating of books and that books would be permanently replace. I believe that one of ray bradbury most powerful ways to establish an alternate reality is characterization. Characterization is the emotion and the mindset of a character.
A novel called Fahrenheit 451 is written by Ray Bradbury who is an author famous for writing diverse genres of books such as fantasy, science, horror, and mystery fiction. Fahrenheit 451 was his number one hit because of the uniqueness of the story. The story of Fahrenheit is about a fireman named Guy Montag, who lives in a society where books are banned. The story starts off with an interesting quote “It was a pleasure to burn”, which I found it great as a hook.
Adversity occurs in everyone’s life. The book, The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho that transpires before technology, about a shepherd named Santiago, who has a dream about a treasure in Egypt. The movie, Good Will Hunting transpires in 1997, about a man named Will who had a horrible childhood but would read to escape the problems of his childhood. As he grew older he turned out a genius but did not want the knowledge he had. When personal legends and goals come into question, adversity will always come right around the corner.
The Dystopian name of this book is called “Fahrenheit 451”, By Ray Bradbury. The main character of the book is a fireman. The theme of the book is about a fireman that his job is to burn books , and books are against the law, It’s a world with no knowledge. The fireman has no emotion, he doesn’t pay attention around his society. Since Montag burns book for living people wonder if he reads or hides books.

When people do certain acts, they are usually told by someone to do it and to follow orders. Bradbury depicts education in Fahrenheit 451 as being directed by technology that deprives society the freedom to speak for themselves or do anything without being in fear. The people higher up don’t want people to worry or question politics or the government decisions. “If you don’t want a house built, hide the nails and wood.
The book Fahrenheit 451 was published in 1953 by Ballantine Books but there was a shorter version of the book published by the magazine Galaxy Science Fiction in 1951 under the name The Fireman (SparkNotes). At the time of writing the book Ray Bradbury lived in California and he wrote Fahrenheit 451 in the basement of a building on UCLA campus on a rented typewriter. He used the typewriter to escape the distractions of two kids (Bradbury Ray, Fahrenheit 451). Bradbury was a full time writer and was not employed doing anything else. The author probably had the intent of writing about what the future may hold and advances in technology and other items.
In "Fahrenheit 451" Ray Bradbury creates the setting of a superficially perfect world. The government forbids any citizen from partaking in any activity that may bring free thinking or develop opinion in peoples mind. This makes it easier for him to develop a dull society in which the citizens are brainwashed into acting like robots as they lack basic human values. By creating such a setting, Bradbury shows us the importance of free thinking in society throughout the journey of the main character Guy Montag. He accomplishes this by using specific characters with have positive and negative influences of Guy Montag's life.
In Andalusia, Spain, a shepherd boy named Santiago, decides to sleep in an abandoned church that has no roof; however, it has a sycamore tree growing from within. Besides from his only company being a herd of sheep, Santiago's only belongings is a jacket and one book, which he often uses as a pillow. The next morning, he begins his journey to the village where he plans on selling his sheep’s wool. Stopping briefly in Tarifa, Santiago visits a fortune-teller for help in interpreting a dream that he has been having on a daily basis. He tells the fortune-teller that in his dream, he is in a field with his sheep when a child appears.
"What a man thinks of himself, that is which determines, or rather indicates, his fate." (Thoreau). This quote means that every person can have a fulfilling life if they believe in themselves. It suggests that everyone who pursues their dreams and does not allow obstacles to stop them is commanding of their own fate. As exhibited in The Alchemist and The Power of Myth, the quote is a true statement that is applicable to all people.
