The American dream started in the early days of the American settlement, people strived for equality, but come 1920s the American dream had completely flipped. People in the 1920’s created a world of economic prosperity, the standard of living was raised and was attained by majority of Americans. During post war recovery and the postponement of spending America became the richest country in the world, thus making it easy and achievable for every American to live the dream. The average family; two kids, a dog, white picket fence and cookie cutter house, the American dream. People now tend to predetermine your level of intellect by whether you went to a four year university, community college, and which degrees you have. People even determine you intellect on which school you went to even if you had the same degrees as the next person. Post high school education has turned into a big spending pot for families and students. Founders of post-secondary schools are becoming rich off the education of students, forcing us into the mindset that you’ll get a better or worse experience if you go to one place than another. When in reality you are only paying more for the name of the school you go to, putting money right into the pockets of men with greed larger than life. “Chock it up, fork it over, shell it out. Watch it burn holes through pockets.” (Dana) this quote represents the students and their families, as well as the member of the school. The students will give their money in order to get the proper education in order for them to attain a job and live the American dream, but they end up giving so much money that it “burns” through the boards’ pockets, the more students, the more money, and that’s all they care
