Now the American dream can be defined in so many different ways, but the general idea is freedom that allows everyone the same opportunity to success and high social status.The American dream is both being wealthy and happy, but is the American Dream really a reality? The Great Gatsby has many characters who are rich and high on the social status. Everyone seems like they have it all, but do they really? Mice of Men isn’t quite the same. The people in that book don’t want to be wealthy like the characters of Great Gatsby. They care more about having land and each other. It is not likely to happen for most people. Gatsby seemingly had everything a person could want. He was rich with a huge house and through parties in where hundreds of people attended. To him however, he was missing the key to his happiness, Daisy. He fell in love with Daisy when he met her as a soldier in the war. When he went off he promised he would return, but when he got back Daisy was already married off to another man, Gatsby had lost the only love in his life. When he was shot dead in the pool, his chances and dreams died along with him (Fitzgerald 162).Myrtle Wilson did not have anything she really wanted. She was married to a man that she did not love and did not provide her with the life she wanted (Fitzgerald 33). She loved Tom, who was already married to Daisy and lived a wealthy lifestyle that Myrtle could never afford. Having a fight with her husband and thinking she was running to who she thought was Tom in the yellow car she ended up getting hit by it. Mytle died an unhappy woman.
