The analysis of date gone wrong and the report of an unusual occurrence by Logan R. Overview: The main change I focused on throughout my two papers was the shift in focus from a casual, humorous story, to a serious, monotonous report. In this vein, I pretty much had to completely rewrite the story between versions but attempted to maintain paragraph parallelism. I also made the effort to use the serious story to make the funny story funnier, so that the serious story on it’s own would not be funny, but in context with the funny version it would hopefully be hilarious. My goal was to make the reader analyze what he is reading and notice the little things, for example, that the date is Friday the Thirteenth. The casual use of the word slut is meant to be funny, especially when contrasted with the vampire costume in version one and the insinuation that Gus asks Cleo to dress in such a way in the second version. I changed the way I referenced Gus’ scooter from the first to the second because it is more of a humorous thought to see them on a little moped than on the ambiguous “two wheeled vehicle”. I also changed the way I depicted the onlookers of the ride, from vague “looks” to “Locals calling in [to] reporting a strange couple” so that the serious story would reveal something about the funny story that makes it funnier. This also goes the other way though, where the funny story makes the serious story funny because you have already read the funny version. The restaurant scene is meant to be light hearted in the first, but a major cause for concern in the second by way of the use of “sellers” versus “convicts”.
