The book of Esther is a great book and is powerful in so many ways. Esther is worthy of our attention and consideration. God’s people were in danger and the Lord was going to make sure they were vindicated and victorious in the face of their enemies. The name “Esther” means “Star” and she was a heroine, daughter of Abihail and adopted by Mordecai and tribe of Benjamin. She was a great woman of God, but we must see what it took for her to come to the role of queen.
Ahasuerus,a Persian king, sitting in the palace in Shushan has a great feast in the third year of his rule. Esther was then put in her place as queen of Persia (2:1ff). This was God working behind the scenes to ensure His people were not going to be annihilated from the face of the earth (2.15ff). Mordecai, who was the uncle of Esther was going to help the people of God prevail over Haman and his evil scheme against the Lord (3.1ff). Haman wanted to destroy the Jews because of Mordecai’s refusal to bow to Haman (3.2). Haman, the enemy of the Jews is indicted by the king for the plan he had to kill the Jews (7.5ff). Haman realizes the danger he’s in from the king and is immediately taken to the gallow and hung on it. Vengeance is mine saith the Lord, I will repay. We must give space for the discipline of God and allow the chastisement to take it’s course no matter what (Heb. 12.9-12). The Lord’s people are victorious and a great feast is instituted, known as the Feast of Purim. This was a day of feasting and gladness, a day where their sorrow was turned to joy and mourning to a good day. The day Jesus died on the cross for the remission of all men sins, He broke down the middle wall of separation, He nailed the Old Law to the cross, and He gave all mankind an opportunity to have their sins washed away. Shouldn’t we make sure we remain thankful for the deliverance we’ve been shown by God through Jesus
