For my 4th quarter book report I chose the book The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein. This book is composed of 336 pages delicately composed writing. This book is modern realistic fiction due to the fact it is from a dog’s perspective. This novel deals with real life issues of losing a spouse/love one, illness, transformation, and marriage. The setting in the book is present day Settle, Washington. The mood of the story is restlessness due to the factor of always wanting more.
Enzo, protagonist, is a dog who has a humane like soul and craves for an expansion in education. Enzo feels trapped in his dog body and wishes he was human. Enzo is owned by Denny who he has a special bond with.

Eve, Denny’s Wife, who becomes extremely ill and passes on. When Enzo first meets eve he is unsure of her but soon forms a special bond with her. Due to her illness, Eve becomes fatigue and irritable which puts strains on her relationship with Denny.
At the beginning of the book Enzo is on his death bed and his reflecting upon his life. His first memory is when Denny picked him out of his litter and brought him home to his small apartment. Enzo isn’t fond of the apartment but enjoys Denny’s company so he doesn’t mind it much. When Denny falls in love with Eve and starts bringing her to their home. Enzo becomes jealous of Eve but soon they build a bond that grows
