Biotic factors are all the living things in an ecosystem. Biotic components affect inhabitants of organisms. Therefore, a biotic factor is the activity living organism that affects another living organism within its environment. Biotic factors within a community can affect the populations of organisms but are also essential to the balance of life within the ecosystem. (Biology-online.org, 2015)
Symbiotic relationships are a big part of how an organism lives its life and works around its ecosystem and environments community. It also plays a big role in an animal’s niche which is an organism’s way of life. The Australian King Parrots main symbiotic relationship is parasitism. Parasitism is an association and relation between two organisms where one benefits and one is harmed. One example that is a main and fatal disease that King Parrots develop from the effect of parasitism is spironucleus. He says the disease is treatable but could be prevented by more attentive cleaning and watching the birds’ hygiene. “Birds with spironucleus will shed the parasite in their droppings which is why we need people with birdfeeders to regularly clean out the surface with a scrubbing brush to prevent the parasite passing between birds,” he said. “This should be done initially with soapy water and a stiff scrubbing brush and then dilute with a little bleach.” This type of prevention of this deadly parasitism towards birds should be noted and practiced with the Australian King Parrots getting put into this new zoo with its enclosure.
