The Babysitters Club series by Ann M. Martan is a true classic. The first book in the series, Kristy’s Great Idea has sold about 180 million copies and several T.V shows and Movies have been made about it. Kristy’s Great Idea falls into the genres of growing up and fiction. My project type is theme and I will identify the theme of the story and how the main character changes throughout the book. The main characters in The Babysitters Club; Kristy’s Great Idea are Kristy Thomas, Mary Ann Spear, Claudia Kishi, and Stacey McGill. The book is set in the year 1990, in Stoneybrook Connecticut. Stoneybrook is described as a small little town where everyone knows each other. The girls create their own business and friendship is a recurring theme. The mood is playful, humorous, and uplifting. The main conflict of the story is that Kristy doesn’t want her mom to get remarried to a man named Watson Brewer. While Kristy’s mom and Watson try to make Kristy give him a chance, Kristy wants their family to stay how it is and refuses to spend time with Watson and his children. The girls run the club together and their friendship is tested throughout the book. The girls have to overcome the challenges of middle school. They have to learn how to run a business smoothly together. In the book, Stacey has diabetes and is hesitant to tell the other girls because she is afraid that they will think she is a freak. When she tells the other members of the babysitters club, they support her and are kind to her. Kristy says, “It’s rotten, but I mean, you’re not a freak or something.” Claudia says, “We’re here for you Stacey”. These are both great examples of friendship because the girls know that Stacey is sensitive about this, and they tell her that they support here and that she is their friend no matter
