The Back to the Future trilogy is without doubt one of the most recognized and well-known film series ever created. The action and adventure trilogy, written by Bob Gale and directed by Robert Zemeckis, tells the story of a young Marty McFly, journeying through the past, present, and future. These actions can help establish a theme for the trilogy. For example, Marty makes his dad become more confident, which changes his future (BTTF I). Marty uses several actions to persuade his father to stand up for himself, and this affects George McFly’s future. Due to Marty’s actions, the future is changed completely. Likewise, Doc decides that despite the fact that he is from the future, he will be with Clara (BTTF III). In doing this, Doc is making his own future, and he is making it with Clara. He has decided that he doesn’t have to follow a specific path for his future, that he can make his own future. The characters’ actions are extremely effective when it comes to showing a theme. The theme, the future is what one makes it, can be exposed through cause and effect, character’s speech, and character’s actions.
