In the book The Billion Dollar Spy by David E. Hoffman , he gives a history lesson about how one spy saved the government 2 billion dollars by infiltrating the Soviets. This book is really based off politics, a person, and a group of people. The book is based off the Cold War and how one spy betrayed the Soviets to give the United states a opportunity to acquire classified information.This book is meant to be read by young adults that are interested in history books about wars and it is overall a good history book that is not boring. David E. Hoffman tells a story about the Cold War and how one spy saved the government 2 billion dollars. This story is based off real events that occurred during the Cold War and talks about how a Soviet engineer betrays the Soviet Union. This helps the novel because it adds more action to it, it makes it more enjoyable to the reader to the point that it does not seem like it is based off true events because of the amount of detail there is. The book makes learning about the Cold War and a spy not seem like a history lesson, even though an individual is still learning about history with Hoffman’s twists of action it makes the book even better. This book is a well written book about an important part of history. The Billion Dollar Spy does not really have any weaknesses. One of the weaknesses that David Hoffman has in his writing is how he exaggerates many parts of the book. Sometimes the book did not seem realistic because of the exaggeration that was in it but it also made the book kind of confusing. Even though the exaggeration has a negative effect to the book it does not mean it ruined the book. The book is overall good, but less exaggeration would make it
