The Black Revolution And Racism During The 1900's

Racism was a big unruly problem during the 1900s. From blacks not being able to go into restaurants, ride busses, live in certain neighborhoods, having to go to different schools; racism was everywhere during this time period. This lead to many riots, protest, and killings. Blacks were very fed up with dealing all of the discrimination against their race. Some blacks realized that they were going have to stand up for what they believe in, and get the other people of their race to follow them. In 1964 human rights activist Malcolm X gave a speech called The Black Revolution. In this speech Malcolm X gives points to African American on what ways to go about getting what they want. X states that blacks do not have the rights they are supposed to have referring to the ballot. He believes that if blacks had the right to vote and join in politics that the United Sates would be a completely different place. Malcom X also believe that giving blacks the right to vote will prevent war. This is because blacks have dealt with their problems for so long that their last resort is to fight. He goes on to say how fed up they are and they are going to stop being at the bottom and will push their way to the top with whatever it takes. In the speech Malcom X seems to start the speech calmly but then states that they are ready to do what they have to, to get what they want. Stokely Carmichael in his black power speech has a similar idea as Malcom X. That idea being that he is fed with how blacks are being treated, and they are done asking whites nicely for what they want. Carmichael says that blacks have been beaten for too long and that blacks are now going to show retaliation if they have to. In the speech Carmichael says “After years of this, we are almost at the same point because we demonstrate from a point of weakness.” He is reinforcing the point that blacks have no other choice than to fight back.
