The Long Black Student Movement In The 1920's

The Long Black Student Movement officially started/traces back to the 1920’s. During this time there was an increase in Black students and since Predominately White Institutions made many excuses to explain why they wouldn’t accept Black students, Historically Black Colleges were created. America as a country with all its institutions being founded upon racism, the Academic space would not be a separate entity. Students throughout the centuries/years have found ways to push back against discrimination within the academic space, and there are always some who accept the current system as it is. The 19th century student looked at the opportunity to go to school in general as a big step forward into making progress. The early 20th century student was quite different in many ways. It seems the more progress Blacks make, there is always a wall that appears and pushes/halts the progress 2 steps back. Students observing exactly what the education was and how it ill prepared Blacks to be successful, how it neglected to give Black children the same resources as children in white schools had etc, decided a new approach was needed. Hence the civil rights movement which was active, nonviolent yet very clear about what Black people wanted. They wanted to be treated like humans, and humans deserved civil rights in a country in which they were citizens. In fact people in general deserve to be treated humanely, not exploited and oppressed. Many gains were made based on the actions of people in the Civil Rights Movement. At the same time, all demands were not met, and if some demands were met, they were not met in the exact way they were asked of.
