The book I read was People of the Sparks by Jeanne DuPrau. The book is about all the people of Ember getting to this village that got out of a depression a few years ago and they are finally back up on their feet. Osh has proved to be a strong caregiver, which makes him a worthy partner to be stranded on an island with. At this point in the story, Osh is talking to Crow about the challenges of raising her. He didn’t want Crow to be taken away from him so he would go above and beyond to keep her protected and content.

A toolbox filled with many different tools that have many different purposes can be used to put broken things back together, or take whole things apart. This all depends on the person with the tools and their intentions. One could also substitute the toolbox for the act of lying and all of the tools inside of the box for the different types of lies that there are. In The Things They Carried, by Tim O’Brien, many of the characters’ thoughts stay centered around love. The Things They Carried is a collection of short stories based upon Tim O’Brien’s time in the Vietnam War. Throughout his writing, Tim explains the ups and downs of war, the feelings he and the other men felt, and the situations they found themselves in. He gives a very in depth look specifically on the idea of love during a time of war. The Things They Carried demonstrates the power love has over the thoughts and actions of the people in its stories.
In the chapter, “Boys & Girls”, Sandra Cisneros uses the last sentence to show Esperanza’s inability to fully define herself. When Esperanza is thinking about the difference and separation between boys and girls she says “Until then I am a red balloon, a balloon tied to an anchor. ”(9) This quote is talking about how Esperanza, the balloon, is being held back by Nenny, the anchor, who burdens her because Esperanza thinks she needs to separate from her to define herself. Although Esperanza feels she is weighed down by Nenny, by saying, “Until then”(9) she realizes that she will eventually leave and get past this ‘problem’.
Arthur from "The Seventh Most Important Thing" by Shelley Pearsall demonstrates the traits of kindness, forgiveness, and curiosity. The reasons I personally think this is the case are that he was very forgiving to his mother, even though she threw out his dads belongings that meant a lot to him, and I think he is kind because he still does things for his mom. In the House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros, the characters each have their own struggles that they must overcome. One of the main traits that separate characters is that who overcomes their struggles and who gives in to them. People should endeavor to make a change in their lives because life is too short to give in to a struggle.
