American author, Gail Sheehy once said “If we don’t change, we don’t grow, if we don’t grow, we aren’t really living.” in your life, it is good to grow and move on from who you were. In the books, The Boy Who Saved Baseball by John H. Ritter and Ungifted by Gordan Korman, the general idea is that people can change and mature.
People don't always keep their promises. The Boy who saved baseball, is about Cruz wanting to be at the camp so he can participate in the big game against the all star team. Tom is a really good baseball play compared to a lot of people at the camp “I’m Cruz De La Cruz,” he said. “From up like me, fine. Quit Paloma. Here’s my insurance waiver and two hundred dollars. I bat right, throw right, throw right, I’m mainly

Del Gato was in the major league, so he is a good coach that can make the team a lot better. Cruz is still trying to bring the team together, and help Tom’s team win. In this piece of evidence, it shows that Cruz just left for no reason. The time that he left was the day right before the big game. Del Gato and everyone expected him to play in the game, but Cruz just left with only telling Rachel, who he wanted to run away with. “Tom get up! All of you guys, wake up Cruz is gone!” “What?” Tom rolled from his side to his stomach and lifted his head. “He’s gone,” Cody repeated. “His duffel bags are gone, Screwball’s gone. His sleeping bag is rolled up and put away on the bunkhouse shelf.”(Ritter 166) This shows that Cruz left, and changed who he was in the matter of one night. He changed all of his goals and just ditched the team. On the next page, it shows that he only told Rachel which I stated in the explanation above this. He never showed anyone else, even Tom who Cruz was good friends with that he was going to leave a couple days before the big game. “As the team let their thoughts drift and dance beneath the diamond sky, on their way to sleep, Cruz had the last word “Rachel,” He whispered “Will you run away with me?” …show more content…
In Ungifted by Gordan Korman, The main character, Donovan is a trouble maker and he was always in detention. He would be very impulsive when he made his decisions. One example is when Donovan got in trouble and Dr.Schultz who is the superintendent got mad at him. “What a nightmare! There was damage to the gym floor in addition to the doors, which were a total loss. The Foundry that had made the Statue had gone out of business 5 years ago, so good luck getting a replacement for Atlas. The district's insurance agent was on vacation for the next two weeks. I missed my dinner meeting and my dinner. By the time I got back to the office, I was almost insane with aggravation” This example shows that Dr.Schultz was really aggravated with Donovan's actions which was when he knocked a globe off of a statue and it ruined the gym floor because it rolled down a hill, onto the floor from where it was sitting on the statue. My next example was when Donovan was in his new school and they were in a robotics meet. One of the competitors was trying to sabotage the Academy’s robot, so Donovan decided that he was going to help his team and get back at Cold Spring Harbor. “I’m don’t appreciate rule breaking,’ the superintendent said gravely. ‘School sprit however, is something I appreciate very much. Whatever you are Donovan Curtis, you are a very loyal teammate.” (Korman 262) This shows that even though Donovan did something wrong,
