“The Bracelet” by Yoshiko Uchida is a short story about Ruri her mother and her sister(kiko), They all lived in Berkeley The country was in the middle of a war with Japan.They were sent out of their home to a Japanese concentration camp. There Laurie gave Ruri a bracelet, then ruri lost the bracelet She continues to look for it but she never found it. Through the action of the characters Readers understand that it's better to lose and remember than to lose and forget. At the beginning of the story, Once ruri figured out where her mother and her sister Kiko figured out that they were going to a concentration camp. Her friend (Laurie) came over to give Ruri a bracelet so she would never forget her(Laurie). Ruri heard a knock on the door “When I opened the door…it was my best friend, Laurie Madison, from next door. She thrust the present at me and told me it was something to take to camp.’ It’s a bracelet.’ put it on so you won’t have to pack it.”(page 24) It was at this moment in Ruri's life that she knew it was going to change. She knows that we are her and her family's life till the war was over.
