In Piecing Me Together by Renee Watson, Lee Lee is the only one that is trustworthy and understanding to Jade.

Lee Lee is Jade’s best friend in the book, and they have known each other for ages. In the beginning of the book, when Jades mom talks to her about making new friends, Jade talks about how she wants Lee Lee around her so they can share things that no one other than them understands, and so they can laugh together at what is only funny to them. Jade has been at her new school, St. Francis, for 2 years, and still doesn't have any exceptional friends she wants to spend time with outside of school. After school, she has Lee Lee to talk to about anything she wants to spill out, and Lee Lee is always there for her.

During Jade’s third

They don’t meet each other for a while, but when they do they act like they are already friends. “Then she finally notices that I am not alone, and she pulls her laugh in. “This is Sam,” I tell her. “Finally!” Lee Lee opens her arms wide like she’s known Sam forever. They hug. She’s good with anybody who’s good with me and vice versa.” (99). This part of the book proves that Lee Lee and Jade trust each other enough to not doubt each other's friends, even if they never met them before. The part that says, ‘Like she’s known Sam forever,’ proves that Lee Lee didn’t doubt Jade’s friend even for a second, because she trusts Jade to make good friends. When Lee Lee did this, although it may seem as if she already trusts Sam, it's because she trusts

Tension between the two rise, and Lee Lee is the only one that Jade can turn to in a situation like this. This is evidence that Jade can complain to Lee Lee, and Lee Lee will actually listen to Jade and help her. Another time Lee Lee helped Jade when she was stuck was when Jade was thinking about quitting ‘Woman to Woman.’ Lee Lee talked Jade out of quitting, and because of Lee Lee Jade stuck with it. This is concrete evidence that Lee Lee cares about Jade and wants her to have great opportunities, instead of sulking around her, being jealous of her all the time. Lee Lee just wants to help Jade, and even if it’s something Jade dosent want to do, if Lee Lee thinks it will be good and will help Jade, Lee Lee will talk Jade into it and Jade will trust Lee Lee and listen to her. This cycle of trust is important in any friendship, and it plays a crucial role in Lee Lee and Jade’s friendship. It's what makes Lee Lee the one that Jade can turn to, and without it, their friendship would be much weaker. Having this much trust with one another would also harden the friendship, making it harder to break. Without Lee Lee’s help, many things that were important to Jade would not have
