Colin Singleton and Hassan from An Abundance of Katherines are two very different best friends. Colin lives in a dorm at his college and is always getting dumped by girls named Katherine. Hassan still lives with his parents and has probably never touched a girl. Despite their many differences, they are alike in many ways. All Colin wants is to matter to someone. All Hassan wants is to matter to his best friend. But is there anything more than just wanting to matter in this world? Colin Singleton was never really good with relationships. That was always part of the reason why he would get dumped. The first Katherine that Colin had ever dated asked Colin to kiss her, but he would not do it. They ended up dating for three minutes. Since Colin had always waited for the girl to make a move, there was never any excitement in his relationships, so they never lasted very long. On the other hand, Hassan had never dated a girl. He had never even had the interest in one, until one day. He had gone on a road trip with Colin, and they met a girl named Lindsey. They had also met some of her friends. Hassan had a particular interest in Lindsey’s friend Katrina. After two days, Hassan and Katrina were dating. Unlike Colin, Hassan had always made the first move. Hassan always leaned in to kiss her, so she would not have to kiss him. Overall, Colin loved to date girls, and Hassan did not have as much interest in them. Colin and Hassan did not really like Lindsey’s friends, but Hassan had fallen for one. When Hassan decided to tell Colin, he got upset. Colin made a big deal about how they were supposed to hate her friends. As a result, Hassan told Colin that he did not feel important in their friendship.
