The first article of Remonstrant briefly states that God's decree of election and his judgment of reprobation are conditional upon foreknown faith, or lack of it. The Canons of Dort refutes this article by arguing that the decrees of election and reprobation are absolute and unconditional. Both theologies agree on the election of the saints (saved sinners) but differed on how God chose the elect. The Calvinist assert that the election is not based on any human condition. The elect are chosen not because they are better or more deserving than the non-elect, but only on the unfathomable will of God.
