I was researching online and I found a very interesting case that took place in Houston, Texas. This case involved a 22-year-old female at the time that goes by the name of Cherita Thurman. Cherita was beaten very badly and hog-tied in her apartment back in 2002(KHOU, 2017). The exterminator was making his rounds and that’s when he found her breathless body just lying there. Cherita death was immediately ruled as a homicide because there were no leads to the case (KHOU, 2017).

During an escalated argument with her elderly grandmother, over alcoholic consumption police were called to the scene. Prior to this altercation, Livingston had made an agreement with her grandmother, a legalized order of protection that was established prohibiting alcohol or fighting in the household. When police arrived she was immediate arrested and taken to King County hospital where she was given treatment for her intoxication. About 8 hours later she was taken to a holding cell in in Brooklyn to wait arraignment.
Summarized account On June 7th 1998, James Byrd Jr., a 49-year-old African American male, was walking home alone after a night of drinking with friends and family in Jasper, Texas. As Byrd was walking home, he was stopped and offered a ride from three drunk white men. Byrd accepted the ride and climbed into the back of the pickup truck. The men in the truck were Shawn Berry, Lawrence Brewer, and John King, and they had no intention of taking Byrd home that night.

While trying to remember where they found the knife or knives, West Memphis police interviewed each of the likely stepfathers, and they all agreed that the knife or knives "had probably been left at their home(s) by Damien Echols’”.
In November of 2014, a man, Gary Fellenbaum, and his girlfriend, Jillian Tait Thursday, are charged with murdering the girlfriend’s 3-year old son. Authorities were called under the false pretense of an unresponsive child, when EMTs arrived, 3-year old Scott McMillan was reported to have suffered from bruises, lacerations, and puncture wounds all over his body. Fellenbaum, Tait, and Fellenbaum’s wife, Amber, confessed to police, “…that the little boy had been beaten with blunt and sharp objects, whipped, taped to a chair with electrical tape and beaten, hung up by his feet and beaten, leading to his death.” (Unknown). Tait later explained to the police that the beatings began because Scott refused to eat his breakfast.
During the years 1974-1991 there were several murders that took place in Sedgwick County (in and around Wichita, Kansas). The 1st of these murders was a family of four which happened on January 15, 1974. The members of the family were Joseph Otero, Julie Otero, Joseph’s wife, Joseph Otero II, son and Josephine Otero, daughter. On October 7th, 2015 I attended a public criminal court case at the Superior Court North County Division in Vista, California. On August 27th, 2012, Julie Harper, mother of three, shot and killed her husband, Jason Harper, in their home in Carlsbad, California, claiming self-defense. This case was first presented to Judge Blaine Bowman where Julie Harper was initially tried on first-degree murder. Bowman declared a mistrial and Harper was acquitted of the charges. On March 23rd, the prosecution made motions for a retrial, accusing Julie Harper of second-degree murder/voluntary manslaughter.
On November 28, 2001, 12-year old Christopher Pittman shot and killed his grandparents, Joe and Joy Pittman, in their South Carolina home. The moments leading up to the murder of his grandparents, Christopher patiently waited for his grandparents to fall asleep. Once he felt his grandparents were soundly asleep, he shot both of them in their beds — they never saw what was coming. After he murdered them, he set his grandparents’ house on fire and he fled from the flames by driving off with his family’s truck.
