In both stories The cask of Amontillado and The Tell Tale Heart, by Edgar Allan Poe shares many similarities. In both stories the narrators are the assassins. In the Cask of Amontillado the story is in a carnival of costumes and the narrator seeks revenge in a rich man called Fortunato. Throughout the story he convince Fortunato that he can trust him. In the end he seeks his revenge and leaves poor fortunato to die chain to a metal ball. In the tell tale heart, the narrator makes the old man trusted him and acts very kind to him. He wanted to kill him for his evil looking eye. Every night he tried to hunt him but one night he scare the old man to dead that his heart exploded. In the Tell-Tale Heart the old man was nice to the narrator and believe he was a kind and trustworthy man. In the text it says “ So you see he would have been a very profound old man, indeed, to suspect that every night, just at twelve, I looked in upon him while he slept.” ( Page 538). This explains that the narrator is making kind fun of the old man that he doesn't realize that he is spied in the night. This tells that the victim doesn't know that he is going to get kill. In the Cask of Amontillado, Fortunato doesn't see his death coming because he was drunk and was too weak to defend himself. Montresor offers more wine so he could get drunker and be weaker. The evidence is stated in the text as “ Drink” I said, presenting him wine. He raised to his lips with the leer.”( Page 61). This proves that Montresor wanted Fortunato to get more drunk so he wouldn't suspect that they were getting deeper in the catacombs and hasnt find any Amontillado. This explains how the victims never were noticing that something could have happen to them. If they could have possibly prevent their death they wouldn't be too happy with the
