Terri Babbage wrote an article called, “Dignity for the Workers”. She talked about the reality that workers in low earning jobs have to face, how difficult it is for them to meet all there needs. There wages are low and they dont get much time off. Terris’ essay shows sympathy saying, “We cannot allow this ruthless exploitation to continue, especially since the companies know they are doing wrong”. (Babbage 12)
Conflicts between workers and employers are prevalent to this day. From fair wages, to better working conditions, and even to appropriate healthcare, there is always some form of questioning that needs to be addressed. Dating back to the late 1800’s the economy and labor market of the United States underwent massive changes which mainly revolved around people of all different racial and socioeconomic backgrounds becoming wage laborers. Due to these previously unheard-of changes, a conflict between the employees and employers began. Therefore, in order to resolve labor issues, through great difficulty workers created unions and protested against their employers.
It is important that staff recognise that human rights of all individuals involved in the service/s and that everyone be treated with dignity and respect. This rights include the equal access to assistance, confidentiality and acknowledgement of cultural heritage. This is important in relation to ATSI’s, as historically they have suffered at the hands of past government mistakes and may be less reluctant to use the service/s or follow procedure/policies because of their past experiences. Providing the best education, health and wellbeing throughout the service through such practices: It is important that all staff and service/s personalise their procedure and/or policies to reflect the families and children attending the service/s. Remaining ethically and professional safe in daily routines and practices but catering for individual families and children were best possible.
Globalization has had an impact on just about everywhere in the world, whether it be positive or negative. There have been many benefits and good things that have come out of this international movement. We have more goods, we are more connected, things are easier to do, goods are cheaper, and life values and conditions have improved, but what about the people who don't have access to these benefits? Since the introduction of global scale corporations, unsafe working conditions have always been prominent. Workers in factories for these global corporations, which are often people in poorer countries, have had to work long hours for little pay, in places without basic needs, like heating or cooling systems. The people who work in these factories do not know any better, because these dangerous conditions are what they have known all their life. As Roman Catholics, it is our religious duty to serve others whether those people are a part of our religious community or whether they are from any other type of community.
