Makeup trends change from decade to decade and year to year. This report takes a look at the beauty/makeup trends throughout the last few decades:
In the 1400’s to the early 16th century- The ideal Renaissance woman was more voluptuous that any other time in history. The term “blondes have more fun” many have come from this area because they believed that the lighter the hair color, the better. Pale ivory skin was considered sexy. A type of dye was used to tint the lips to a deep red color, the look was pale complexion and blood red lips, it had a kinda of Vampire chic look.
Next came the Victorian Era: 1837-1901 named after Queen Victoria-Modesty was the look when it came to Victoria

Hair was usually kept short at shoulder length and was worn soft and curly or wavy. Lots of rollers and soft hair was the look to have. Along with that came a softer peaches and cream complexion and the women’s focus was really on having and getting flawless skin. Long layered, feathery haircuts became the look that every women wanted to have. This went along with a bronzed beach look and the tanning trend. Women began relying on bronzers and self tanners; warm glow-y bronzy look with feathered hair was the rage. An outlined shiny mouth represents the shimmering 70’s disco look. 1980’s- The decade of big hair and The material Girl- aerobics was the craze of the 1980’s and focused on fitness for women. The beauty trend would describe 80’s Big hair and hairspray. The bigger the better was the mantra for this period. Women wore bright colors of makeup-blue eye shadows and liners, also bushy eyebrows were considered very sexy. A dark wide mouth is what was worn during this time, there were reverse gender roles so lips are dark black or metallic in color.
1990- The Era that brought us Beverly Hills 90201-Models like Kate Moss dominated the Heroin chic trend which looked like a strung out unkempt look and gave way to the popular grunge look. The 90’s hairstyles were the Rachel cut named for Jennifer Anistons character on Friends. Kate Moss embodied the androgynous ideal which leads to a minimalist approach to makeup in this time. A clearly outlined mouth painted in natural colors, either shining or matte, what was on the lips of most women in the era. The lip pencil was used especially when created the perfect
