Siblings are annoyances, role models, best friends, and family but are they more than that? Depending on where you are in the birth order life can affect you in multiple different ways. Birth order is the place in which you are born whether that be first born, middle child, youngest, or one of nineteen. Studies now suggest that birth order plays a role in how children grow up and how they interact with people in their adult life, this includes how they interact with others in the workplace. Robin says in her article “Birth Order: How Does It Impact You in the Workplace?” that second borns are “considered peacemakers, meaning [they] are a good resource to turn to when it comes to conflict resolution” (Robin). It makes sense that a middle or second born child would be a peacemaker for the fact that growing up they were always in between the oldest and youngest. They constantly dealt with their fighting and trying to resolve it. It is important to have a peacemaker in a work setting so that when conflict arises there is someone to douse the flames. Roff says “Their concern is that because they make sure everyone gets what they need, they can lose their own sense of direction, so middles often feel lost” (Roff).
