“The Outsiders”, is a tragic yet inspiring and touching book. Some of the main characters in the book are Ponyboy, Johnny, Dally, Darry, Sodapop, and Two-Bit. The main idea of the book is mostly about grouping by how much money they have. Two groups, the Socs and the Greasers, are different, but in a way also not different. Greasers are some kids who are not that smart, don’t have much money and live in poor homes. Darry for one, is very smart and capable to be a Socs, but decides to be a Greaser with Ponyboy and Sodapop and the gang, his real family. Socs are rich kids that ride around in mustangs and live in nice homes. Some (lots of Socs boys) even like to terrorize the Greaser boys. Some girls like Cherry Valance, do not like to watch fights, even though she is a Socs.

All of the characters in the book have their own meaning, but the character that I am most like is Johnny. Johnny is nice and respectful, but sometimes he needs to do bad things for a reason. My favorite parts in the book are when the Greasers finally get their territory back after the rumble, when Johnny lives long enough to hear that the Greasers had won their territory and to tell Ponyboy to stay gold, and when Johnny and Ponyboy get jumped at the park. One thing that I don’t like about the book is when Dally goes ballistic and gets murdered by the cops. If I could change that one part, I would make it to where the cops didn’t shoot him but lock him up until he can calm down. Now I do like most parts of the book but the only boring part was when Ponyboy introduces some of the people during different parts of the book. In the beginning, Ponyboy describes how Darry and Sodapop look and act. When the rumble starts, Ponyboy also describes how some of the other Greasers
