Puritan values had many values that affected people in a certain type of way. Many people supported the values but then others didn’t. Puritans were people who were mostly Christian and they believed that the bible is used everywhere. They also believed that everything in the bible is right and you should always do exactly what the bible says through every situation you go through. Puritans mainly focused on how you should get through life making good decisions so you don’t go through hell, being religious, and what happens when you go to hell. They always thought when you make bad decisions, it was God who decided who should be punished. Edwards said, “God is dreadfully provoked, his anger is as great towards them as to those that are actually suffering the executions of the fierceness of his wrath in hell”. (Edwards 1) What Edwards is trying to say is that sinners will go through a lot when they go to hell because God never made or turned them into a bad person. It was their decision whether to be a good or bad person. You will get your consequences if you chose to be bad. Puritans were truly passionate about how to have a good relationship with God. When you go to hell, the devil is waiting for you and then you would get swallowed up, while your heart is hurting tremendously. Edwards also stated, “Your wickedness makes you as it were heavy as lead, and to tend downwards with great weight and pressure towards hell”. (Edwards 1) You have no way of getting out of hell because God believed you deserved it from making a sinful choice. Feeling trapped inside of a hole is how you would feel in hell. God would put a large amount of weight on you just so then all you can do is sink to the bottom where you belong
