The Clutch By Rita Bozi And Gabor Mate

For someone who has experienced plays that have been held in the high school

auditorium, the curiosity of attending a play at a popular performing theater, "The

Clutch", was over on a Wednesday evening. I walked in with no expectations but hoped

that the actors Rita Bozi and Gabor Mate would keep it entertaining enough to prevent

me from nodding off. For a small venue, The play "The Damage is Done", has a

variety of productions performed, which is what made it interesting to watch. With the

amount of dance and music, the play could have passed for a musical, but there was a

lot of context to follow, which made it confusing at certain parts of the play.

When Rita dances next to Gabor, his

performance seemed to be awkward. For example, Gabor started to dance while sitting

on a chair, but his choice of movements caused me to giggle furtively. Overall you will

be mesmerized by Rita's moves and might be tempted to nod your feet to the beat of

the song.

There are a variety of music genres and sounds this production uses to help give an

image to the audience. They first played a famous Hungarian song called "Gloomy

Sunday" also known as "the suicide song". I had never heard the song before because

it was in another language, but overall it was pleasing to hear.They also play a little bit

of opera, a rock song by B.B Gabor (Nyet Nyet Soviet), and a few notes played on a

mini piano by Rita. The sound effects in this play are very detailed, like when Rita is

looking through the channels on the radio. She doesn’t have a radio physically in front

of her, so she mimes it out as if she does while the sound effects play.

The storyline was great, but I found that the main actress played too many roles

which made it difficult to follow her presence on the stage. Rita does a great
