Classic novels can be considered some of the greatest reads to be on the face of the earth. A classic can be defined as a book being accepted as exemplary or noteworthy. For example a book that has been noted as one of the greatest books ever, or through a readers opinion. Often classic novels have qualities that represent artistic qualities, stands the test of time, has a universal appeal to readers, and makes connections. The classic novel I chose to read over the course of the quarter was The Color Purple.

She was the first African American women to get awarded the Pulitzer prize. She wrote The Color Purple and her other novels, reflected the way Walker felt as a child. “Walker largely kept to herself as she continued to attend segregated schools”(Hunter). As a child she experienced the discrimination of the time period, even sitting in the front of her segregated bus, upsetting a white female. These experiences pushed walker to write novels like The Color Purple. The color purple is noted as a classic novel because it rips to shred the ideas of society during this time period. Blacks fighting for their rights, and women fighting for their rights against men, and the idea of God is questioned as well. This book has been read, criticized, and appreciated for years, and will continue to be a book read for years to come.
