Relationships are the most complex part of today’s society and affect all areas. All relationships are different, and they influence the decisions made by people and others around them. Romantic relationships are the most meaningful element in people lives, providing a source of deep fulfillment. One such relationship, which is extremely influential but often overlooked, is the relationship between a student and their teacher. There is a great deal of controversy surrounding the relationship between the teacher and the student. The main concern people seem to have is whether or not there should be a relationship at all. Some schools have specific rules about what to do if a student wants to date a professor and verse versa including Montgomery College. According to the Montgomery college procedure policies on section A, “It is the policy of the College that its employees shall not maintain, engage in or undertake an amorous relationship or permit one to develop with a student or supervisee who is enrolled in the person's class or is subject to that person's supervision or evaluation, even when both parties appear to have consented to the relationship.” The job of the teacher is to educate as well as nurture the students to the best of their ability. Our society as a whole is constantly growing and changing; and this has a strong influence on our education system. As a teacher some believe that we should give our students the tools that they need to find themselves and grow as individuals, which will help the students develop self-actualization, morals and values. If a student is able to find themselves, they will develop healthy attitudes towards themselves and others. And as an individual it is important that someone know how to maintain relationships and work well with other. As states by Dr. Ronald Herron, vice president for student affairs at SUNY Purchase “This is not a moral question, this is a professional conduct question.
