I met with my AP Literature teacher, Mrs. Rutigliano at Mayfield High School. She teaches both 10th and 12th grade English along with being an academic coach for grades 9-12. I have been surrounded by English teachers my entire life because my mom is an English teacher as well. It has always been a career I have considered because of my love for the English language and children. I look up to Mrs. Rutigliano and her love for teaching English which is why I interviewed her. I learned some things that I wouldn’t have thought about before choosing the path to become an educator. While many believe school work stops at 3pm when the students leave, Mrs. Rutigliano assured me that it never stops. She believes in building deep connections with her students that allows her to share joys and struggles with each other. Although, she explains how the hard part of teaching is also dealing with humanity because sometimes conflict arises that can cause trouble in the classroom. Mrs. Rutigliano explains that when these situations happen she believes in compromise because she never wants a student to feel like she doesn’t want them to succeed. She thinks for someone to enjoy this occupation they have to love kids and all kinds of kids. I would agree with this because as a teacher, you can’t be racist or look down on a kid because they don’t seem like someone you would like. Also, being a teacher is very time consuming and emotional so you have to be ready to deal with that. As a teacher, one has to realize that there is your emotions don’t stop at 3pm and you don’t forget your students or what happened that day, it is always carried with you.
