Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. For the smallest of dreams can be your biggest accomplishments. In the book, The Return of the King, Frodo and Sam run into much trouble traveling across Mordor. Their mission is to get to Mount Doom so they can destroy the ring of power. Frodo was captured leaving Sam to climb a tower filled with dead Orcs in order to get back together with Frodo. A Black Rider flies past them and almost spotted them. A general mistakes them for Orc soldiers and forces them to march with a large group of Orcs for many miles. Finally, Gollum tracks them down and will not stop in trying to get his precious ring back. This volcano is located in the land of Mordor, and this is the place where Sauron has set up his kingdom. He forged the ring of power at Mount Doom and Mount Doom’s lava is the only thing that can destroy the ring. Mount Doom is 4,500 feet tall with its base about 3,000 feet. The volcano itself can make you go mad, but if your will is like pure titanium then you can surpass it. ☺ (Simile) Sam is pure of heart and we know this when he shouts “And I’ll carry Mr. Frodo up myself, if it breaks my back and heart,” (Tolkien 216). Sam physically does this when he grabs his weary friend and climbs miles up the mountain with Frodo on Sam’s back. Truly their friendship is greater than this corrupted volcano.
