The Crucible and The Village Comparison
In the novel The Crucible by Arthur Miller and the film The Village written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan they both have similar themes and characters. The Crucible that took place in the seventeenth century carries the plot of a girls’ obsessive love crazy jealousy to potentially kill some innocent townsfolk and place others in jail. A young man by the name of John Proctor comes to the aid of the defence to show what an awful person she is and coax the truth from her to save the people she has harmed. The Village follows an erie late eighteenth century village and the hardships they have to face because of where they live, and to keep the real truth a secret and the hope alive among the shooken people. Lucius Hunt is a strong but silent type that has the heart of his fiancee Ivy Walker who would walk to earth's end to save him. Lucius Hunt is a strong young man that likes to keep to himself his presence in known wherever he goes He plans to marry his childhood friend Ivy Walker. John Proctor doesn’t always have his priorities in order and has shown that after committing adultery and because of his actions the life of his wife could be in jeopardy.

Having the book and film take place happen around the same time they same social circumstance and constructs. John and Lucius have same qualities about them but used them for different reasons, they have people who they care for and have different reasons for why they do things. John a man who made mistakes and did everything in his power to make things right between the people that were hurt.
