Giles Corey was a very important part of the Salem Witch Trials as he was the only one who was pressed to death, showing the lengths people would go to to compromise the beliefs of others in order to gain influence in the community. Giles was one of the few men, even as a true member of his religion, who was accused of witchcraft (ORR; User). Giles Corey had been known for killing his first wife which had brought suspicion to him. People of Salem would go these lengths to just prove him guilty. He was an eighty year old man when he was accused, while bringing conflict as he was one of the few elderly men accused (User).
In the well-known novel The Scarlet Letter one of the protagonists, Hester, commits a horrible sin that in her culture was considered to be as bad as murder. Hester committed adultery with one of the most holy people in her community, Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale. Reverend Dimmesdale tried to hide his mistake of adultery and conform to the norm of the society he lived in. Many people consider his cowardice to be his worst action. A famous quote contradicts that notion, “The opposite of courage in our society is not cowardice, but conformity.”
Reverend Hale came to Salem just to find signs of witchcraft and to become an important person in court. He wanted to help uncover the witches in the village. "His goal is light, goodness, and its preservation. " This quote shows that Hale has been trained to be the best witch hunter and how happy he is to show off what he has learned. Hale even brought books with him to Salem on how to find signs of witchcraft.

Throughout the past few chapters Elie claims he is fighting for his life because he needs to be there for his dad. This is exactly what the quote is implying because his dad is worth fighting for. Elie needs Shlomo by his side because he helps guide him. Throughout the book Shlomo has taught him how fast to eat his rations, when he should sleep, and ways to save himself and stay strong.

Lies Cost Lives Over 150 young women involved with USA Gymnastics (USAG) and Michigan State (MSU) recently came out as victims of sexual abuse. The culprit: their well-respected physician, Larry Nassar. The young gymnasts were required to see this physician, and, when a few brave girls tried to report him, they were shut down for being “disrespectful” or “insubordinate.” The organizations who supported Nassar, specifically USAG, MSU, and the United States Olympic Committee (USOC), did nothing for these young women because they felt they needed to protect their and Nassar’s reputations as the best of the best.
In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, the setting is Salem, Massachusetts during the late 1600s where the town’s pious Puritan beliefs directly influence their government. A 17-year-old girl named Abigail Williams had an affair with John Proctor, a wealthy, married man. Abigail is told by John to move on but instead, Abigail starts accusing the townspeople of witchcraft, including John Proctor’s wife Elizabeth. As this hysteria begins to rise, other people such as Thomas Putnam, a rich landowner, start to also allege Salem villagers. In this play, the author illustrates the central idea that people should not allow jealousy to control their actions.
condemned for their attempt, mostly due to the section in Revelations in the Bible that states that there are witches, and that all witches must not live. The accused that do not admit are hung since they are basically going against the word of God that there are no witches. The fact that innocent people are dying for reasons the bible tries to prove reasonable when it is clearly not gives Hale a good enough reason to quit the court. He wants no part of a court that kills innocent people unlike Reverend Parris, who is more worried about his own reputation instead of innocent people’s necks breaking by the noose. He does not want to work with judges that cannot see that people are admitting to something they didn’t do just to save their own
1- Since they follow other peoples religion they had turn this new colony, the same as the one they came from 2- Everyone followed a religion, some didn’t and that’s where the witch-hunts years started, it was revenge because if someone didn’t like someone else they will put the blame on them. 3- Tituba- a slave Abigail- she was a 17th year old orphan Betty-
Is personal integrity more important than survival? The dictionary defines integrity as the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness. The Salem witch trials in history shows how men and women had to choose between their own morals and their faith. In Arthur Miller’s The Crucible the people show their value of personal integrity over life while maintaining their reputation and good name to pass down to generations to come. Giles Corey is a man of integrity who cares for his family and friends in the community.
I mentioned my wife's name once and I'll burn in hell long enough for that. I stand mute…”(1323). He most bravely used his intellectuality and loyalty to defend his family and friends. After having been a victim of the accusations, and having his wife arrested, Giles took it upon himself to expose those accusing innocent people, and to protect such innocent people. The first obstacle was exposing Thomas, who had been accusing people of witchcraft to gain more land.

Corey mistakenly ends up raising suspicion of his wife’s connection to witchcraft, which ends up leading to her sentencing and being hanged. This mistake was a genuine one, but it was still a result of a patriarchal state of mind. A quote from The Crucible, “Martha, my wife. I have waked at night many times and found her in a corner, readin’ a book. Now what do you make of that?”
“The human body is the best work of art.” ― Jess C. Scott This is a quote John Proctor sure would have approved of. Arthur Miller’s The Crucible depicts the last days of the life of John Proctor.
