During this last semester in American Literature, I unequivocally believe that I deserve a solid A. (claim) From the consistent punctuality of assignments, to the effort of sustained attention to class, I have reached an educational pursuit within your classroom, strengthening my writing capabilities. I have grown not only as a student but as a person, exploring the different parts of literature such as transcendentalism (Thoreau/Emerson and Into the Wild), American tragedies (The Crucible), dramas (The Miracle Worker), and even a picaresque novel (The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn). I have accomplished many things this year, gained some of my best grades yet, and produced deep insight regarding multiple topics throughout. Since the beginning …show more content…
For instance, one of the, one of the first assignment of this semester, “The Crucible- synthesis presentation,” I received a score of 100. (evidence/data) I thoroughly believe that I reached significantly deep within this project to expose and tie together the whole idea of the project. As quoted, “With these events unfolding, it was only necessary for people to look up to their perceived authority figure for guidance. Historically, obedience was imbedded in every political system,” I encompassed both the obedience factor and the historic factor which was exactly the request in the assignment. Most (qualifier) of my assignments were done in advance with the exception of one, that I did the same day but was still turned in on time. I can confidently state that I turned in each assignment on time resulting in zero late penalties to my grade. When the opportunity arose to revise a piece of work with the possibility to receive a higher score, I took the occasion seriously and sought out other opinions to aid in the modification and explore other interpretations. (evidence/data) When assignments and test/quiz material became available, I always kept note of the work and began preparing my study material and practiced. Once finished with the assignment, I would go back several times and reread it and compare it to the grading rubric. This presents my personal perfectionism and concern to the task at hand. (warrant) My biggest downfall this semester would be my lack of vocal participation within the classroom. I did provide some (qualifier) cooperation depending on the subject, either asking questions or stating opinions, to aid in the class discussion. Although others might think that my lack of participation in the class hindered my performance, I truly believe in the power of listening, interpretation and writing. (rebuttal) Finally, not once
