The Renaissance could be argued to be the most important event that occurred in world history. It brought together some of the most famous men of history, such as Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Galileo, Raphael, and many more. It helped pull Europe out of their “great depression” which is known as the Dark Ages, and brought innovation towards the arts and technologies. The Crusades were a series of “holy wars” against Muslims, which were started by the royal kings. They lasted 1095-1270. The main objective was to take back the holy land from the Muslims. What sparked the Crusades was the threat presented by the Muslim armies towards the Byzantine Empire. Pope Urban II called for aid upon the Christian knights, to help regain the holy city of Jerusalem from the Turks. The result of the Crusades was the cultural diffusion of Muslim learning into Christian lands.
The Crusades is a cause of the Renaissance. It widened the vision of the European people, showing them that there is a world beyond their land, and that the outside world was more developed. This sparked interest in discovery in many men. Thus, starting the Renaissance, an age of new discovery. The Crusades also produced profits for the Italian merchants’ families shipping men and supplies from Europe to the Middle East. Which provided them contacts, which was another factor for sparking the innovation for the Renaissance. In the 1300’s, the Renaissance were born. It brought artistic creativity, deeper thinking, and innovation to northern Italy, and soon the rest of Europe, it was considered the “rebirth” of Europe.
