The Consequences of Lies According to studies done by The National Institutes of Health, it has been proven that the effects of telling lies, in contrast to simply planning lies, have an effect on people's belief in the truth. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is a novel written by Mark Haddon, explores the faults in lying and the beliefs in the truth in the mind of the main character Christopher Boone. Throughout the story, Christopher discovers secrets his father was hiding away with lies, which not only have him devastated upon finding out but take a toll on his decision-making throughout the story. The smallest lies can have the biggest impact on someone's life. Lies and the consequences of the truth. The following quotes are examples of the truth leading to consequences, “I did it for your good, Christopher.”(Haddon 119), “I killed Wellington, Christopher.”(Haddon 120). “I was shaking and I wanted to be back at home, and then I realized I couldn’t be at home because Father was there and he told a lie and he killed Wellington, which meant that it wasn’t my home anymore” (Haddon 176).
