Autism is a disorder that has wide-ranging symptoms and affects many individuals, whether they have the disorder or not. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time by Mark Haddon stories the life and behavior of an individual with Autism. He does through the eyes of Christopher Boone, the narrator of the novel and someone who goes through life with the disorder. However, much praise it has gotten for its accurate depiction, it has also gotten opposition though banishment. Its use of adult ideas and themes have led to disapproval from more conservative populations. The novel The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time is suitable for young adults and should be made available to them, the novel aids in exposing readers to the realities of the disorder and aids in giving them a greater understanding of them. The honesty in Haddon’s writing has created a unique and original character in Christopher Boone. The novel allows us to see in this unique perspective of an individual with autism, this is highly advantageous into learning about a disorder that is affecting many of our peers. In general, my opinions on the banning of books is that there is never a truly justifiable reason to ban any book. The work of a novel is the essence of an individual’s opinions and beliefs, one that should never be banished for disagreements. Mark Haddon was able to reach into the mind of someone who suffers from autism and translate it into Cristopher; this illuminating novel, is not only is suitable for young adults, but an inspiring and enlightening story for those of all
