That one kid in class you always secretly made fun of, he was weird and never acted quite right. Now that you have grown up and heard they was diagnosed with Autism your thoughts are what the heck even is that, another way to say mentally unsound or crazy? This disorder has been around forever, but the victims of it were called retards and stupid. These kids never stood a chance against society, they cannot process life the way we do and we blame them for it. Society laughs and mocks them not knowing what is truly going on. Autism will affect their daily life, the way they process the world, and how and why they act the way they do. As a child, the kids may not talk as much or be cry more. Probably not, and most do not realise that many kids with this have issues recognizing emotions. That kid seemed rude, just because they had issues processing the difference of being rude and stating facts. Is it not sad that most of the time kids with autism cannot tell if what you say is a joke or if you are bullying them (What is Autism?). Making fun of that person as they flap their arms jumping up and down is comparable to saying that happiness is stupid. In some cases as they do this it is believed that as they do this they are replaying earlier memories, it is believed that some with autism have some of the best memories and they can remember farther back and more clearly than most. Not every person on the spectrum will process things the same way. Maintaining eye contact is an endeavor for some. Going to school and dealing with crowds is the same as mosts worst nightmares. Autism Spectrum Disorders or ASD affects the ability to use imagination, for those on the spectrum it is an uphill battle trying to play pretend. Many in the special education go through years of therapy.
