The Reality of the real world destroys child innocence The World is cruel and unfair. Early in life I learned about the many conflicts of the middle east, I also learned about disgusting cases of corruption and certain double standards like man will always be assumed to be pedophile that show that the world is not a pretty place. This is also shown in the many pieces of texts that we have read in english class this year. In these pieces of texts, the characters are exposed to power abuse, they are exposed to violence, and they are exposed to the loss of other. The first example is in the play Romeo and Juliet. In act 3 scene 5, Lord Capulet demands that Juliet marries Prince. When Juliet refuses to marry Prince, lord Capulet hits Juliet and saids “I tell thee what - Get thee to a church a Thursday / Or never after look me in the face” (3.5.166-167). We see that Lord Capulet uses his power over Juliet to force her to marry someone she doesn’t love. When she refuses to, we see Lord Capulet abuse his power over her and threaten her with eviction. We start with the book The Catcher in the Rye. In the book, Holden does not want to pay the extra five dollars that Maurice is demanding out of him. We are then shown shown from Holden’s perspective the line “Then he smacked me” (103). This means that Maurice punched Holden because Holden didn’t want to give Maurice the extra five dollars. We are shown that people will use violence to take things from people. We are also shown this again from the story Lord of the flies. We are shown this when Jack’s group raids Ralph’s group to take piggy’s glasses. Jack’s group could have asked piggy for his glasses so they could make a fire, but that would have meant that Jack would have to ask piggy for something. Jack does not want to do this, so insted Jack decides that the better option would be to raid Ralph’s group at night and steal his glasses instead. The last point is that throughout the book Lord of the flies, Jack beats up Piggy on multiple occasions to assert his dominance over him and to gain the respect of his fellow group. An Instance of this is in chapter four, when Jack loses face with his group when he lets the fire go out when there was a ship passing by. To gain back face, Jack beats up Piggy and make fun of him to assert his dominance over him. With these examples, we are shown that people in this world will use violence for any reason, ranging from gaining money to gain group
