Lord of the Flies Throughout history, we have seen reoccurring events that have proven that humans are essentially bad. William Golding’s novel, The Lord of the Flies, shows that it is easier for humans to be worse without a morally sound leader than it is to be good. I believe that humans are bad because they are violent and mistreat those who are different. William Golding’s novel Lord of the Flies shows that humans are bad through the death of Simon. The death of Simon illustrates the violent nature of humans. When Simon came out of the forest, they did not stop to see who or what it was. “At once the crowd surged after it, poured down the rock, leapt on the beast, screamed, struck, bit, tore. There were no words, and no movements but the tearing of teeth and claws” (153). They let themselves be overcome with excitement and blood lust and immediately attacked Simon thinking it was the beast. Throughout the book Piggy is abused verbally and physically. Jack continues to make fun of Piggy’s weight and makes him the joke of the group.
