The Dreyfus Affair was a false accusation of treason by the French government on a jewish artillery officer, Alfred Dreyfus. In December of 1894 the trial began to investigate French secrets being passed on to the German government. The accusations were dealt to Alfred Dreyfus, who was quickly accused of treason and sentenced to time on Devil’s Island on the island of French Guiana. While Dreyfus was serving his time in “prison”, Georges Picquart, was digging deeper into the trial and came up with evidence to blame Ferdinand Esterhazy, a high ranked military official, with the treason. This was quickly silenced by the French government. After this incident, a writer named Emile Zola uncovered the government’s miscues and released the information
