Do you want to know what it takes to have courage. Well, the speakers in “The Terror” and the “Transcript of McNeil” explain what it takes to be courage’s in the terror the speaker gets jumped at the beginning of the story and that sicks with him for a long time and at the end he finally finds the courage to face the two who jumped him. And in the transcript of McNeil the speaker is somebody who grew up in segregation and goes to a sit in bar and wants to be server, but they do not serve him. And I think that both stories represent that Courage is the ability to overcome the fear of facing someone, something, and overcoming the fear of someone telling you to stop doing what you are doing and for the right cause. And when the speaker and his friends doing the sit in, they were threatened by the manager and the people in the store, but they continued to sit because they were served in other parts of the store. For example, the speaker states “We were told by several people that if we continued to sit at this lunch counter that we were going to get into a lot of trouble. And we advised the store and its employees and its manager that we intended to sit and to continue to sit until they served us, because they had served us in other parts of the store so they could in fact serve us if they so choose to do so. So, we continued to sit.” (McNeil 10) the evidence before you show that McNiel and his friends overcame the fear of the white people, and they were threatened by many people. Another example is when the manager called the police, and they were threatened by the police, but they continued to sit. For example, the speaker states “The store manager called the police, and the police officer came, and he walked back and forth behind us. And he took his night stick9 and he thumped it in his hand in a threatening manner, but we continued to sit.” (McNeil 11) The evidence before you show that the police threatened McNeil and his friends, and they continued to sit in the lunch bar even after the police officer threatened them.
