In Chapter 9 of the book “Major Problems in California History” the authors use the key term “Hollywood” which is known as the “film colony” where movie stars lived and played. The author uses the term “Hollywood” as life in a movie by stating, “The existence of “Hollywood” as a residential community proved that the kind of life depicted on the silver screen could be found in reality.” Also, the author uses the key term “Hollywood” as a glamorous version of the American Dream by stating, “Ordinary people became acquainted with the movie stars’ opulent lifestyle through stories and photographs in fan magazines. Another way the key term “Hollywood” could be considered is as a resort city also named “Hollywood” located in southeastern Florida.
In the article “California Drought: Governor Jerry Brown Issues Water Rules” for the Cable News Network, Ray Sanchez explains how Governor Jerry Brown is taking drastic measures to reduce California’s water usage. To do that, he has established many rules and restrictions on the people of California, as well as its businesses and farms. Governor Brown states that this drought needs extraordinary actions, as it has shown in the Sierra Nevada Mountains which has lost snow and are now covered with dry and brown grass. I agree with Sanchez and Governor Brown about imposing these rules and restriction on the people of California because these restrictions are going to help guide California out of the drought or at least help maintain and not let this drought get any worse than it already is. I agree with the author because in the article he provides good support to show why these rules need to be enacted upon
We typically do not give much thought to what we call “home”. We perceive home as somewhere we go after a long day, somewhere we can enjoy the simpler pleasures in life away from the restlessness of work. However in The Droughtlanders by Carrie Mac, it challenges our general notion of home for an unorthodox one—a notion that a home goes outside of comfort zones, rather than inside them. California is very diverse state it has desserts, mountains, and is next to the ocean. This creates endless possibilities for growth in many different economy drive industries to flood this great state. In my option the most important industry in California is the agriculture business, I will try not to bore you with my two cents on this topic.
In 2015 in the middle of summer there was a conflagration. The conflagration was in a small town of M.T Vernon,Oregon and it burned for days and days. Firefighters tell me that it started because of the conflagration in California it started from the small embers that traveled and landed in a pile of hay,and spread to the dry grass. Sources tell me that it was the biggest conflagration yet. Many homes and crops destroyed.

Groundwater pumping by farmers should be regulated by the state of California. If civilians in the state are being required to cut water usage back by twenty-five percent (Dimick, 2015), then the farmers should have to as well. The drought is a serious issue for California and a large portion of the Western part of the United States. That whole region of the country should be doing as much as they can to preserve their water resources until the drought (hopefully) ends. Otherwise, this could turn into a major issue for the entire country, not just that state.
I took a step back for this assignment of identifying my culture to assess my life as an outsider I found many cultural aspects apply but I’ll touch on just a few. Most of my social norms, values and traditions are pretty typical for my background. I have genealogy tracing back all over Europe and my parents were raised in Nebraska and Ohio. So, as you can imagine their small town social norms, values and traditions followed them into the big city while they raised two daughters. My sister and I grew up with a lutheran mother and a previously catholic father.
