Ray Bradbury set this story to be on the eve of a battle in the Civil War. The main character, Joby, is portrayed as a young boy who was sent off to be the drummer boy for a Civil War troop going into battle. Joby is afraid of what might happen, and if he will make it home to see his family. The war general notices this the night before their next battle and comes to speak to him. “You are the heart of the army.

The book begins by examining the questions that
In the story The Drummer Boy of Shiloh it talks about a drummer boy on the Confederate side that would go into battle the next morning. He was talking to his General and he was scared. While reading Layli Long Soldier’s Whereas, I was pleasantly surprised with how I liked the literature. As I am not a fan of poetry I wasn't expecting to like this particular piece, but I found that many, if not most, of the poems were fascinatingly executed. Another theme I found that was incorporated into many pieces was land and territory. One of the first poems that caught my attention was “Three”.

“The Drummer Boy of Shiloh” is a Historical Fiction by Ray Bradbury. Though the author Ray Bradbury is usually known for writing science fiction this story about a boy named Joby,it is a very good story that has symbolism throughout it. Today I will be addressing some of the symbols used by the author. Joby is a bo who plays the drum that night before the Civil War in Joby that started 4/6/1862 more than 23,000 soldiers died in those 2 days.
The next symbol is the creek. The creek can symbolize calmness and also can symbolize something bad. When the creek is moving steady it may represent the setting before the war. When the water from the creek is roughly flowing it represents what the battle is like at the moment. Also when the creek is just still it means the battle is over.

Compare and contrast essay The two sets of poems share the same topic which is living through war, but they have different tones, diction, settings and symbols. Poetry set one views war as a way of gaining honor while set two claims that it’s a waste of lives and all these opposing ideas are due to the different timeline. Tone and diction are one of the most important elements in poetry, because tone is the general character or attitude of a place in a piece of writing, while diction is the choice and use of words and phrases in speech or writing. They can be simply differentiated in general terms as the way or style of speech of a person and the different pitches expressed due to the different emotions being experienced by him/her during speaking which I will go further in detail by the end of this essay.

“A Song in the Front Yard” by Gwendolyn Brooks is a narrative poem. This poem is written from the perspective of an innocent, naïve child. The poem tells several stories, the surface story and the hidden metaphor. Therefore, the narrator is that of a child, the surface story is of a young girl who has lived a sheltered, picturesque life. The young girl lives life in the “front yard”, but she wishes to live in the “back”.
These two poems were found from the internet. The first poem is ‘Two Dead Boys’ by Tyler Rager. The second is called ‘Don’t Change on my Account’ by Shel Silverstien. The first poem is full of contradiction and irony.
I am not a father so I cannot express the love for a child. “My son the Man” is a short 16-line poem. In the poem, Sharon compares her son to Houdini and explains how he has grown up. Sharon expresses deeply about her son growing up and leaving her and it is hard for her to watch her little boy become a man. I can kind of relate to this because my mom still looks at me as if I am a little boy.
