The Crucible was published in the year 1953, written by Arthur Miller. This story's setting revolves around Salem Massachusetts in the bay area. Throughout this story many of the characters endure changes because what is going on around them and the tight situations they are in. In The Crucible There are many situations where many characters have to tell lies to stay alive and not be hanged. Through this process there are a lot of dynamic characters but one that really jumps out in my opinion is the farmer John Proctor. From the beginning to the end of this story he changes because of the witch accusations and how his friends are being accused all around him off of false and nonvalid information. Later on Hale comes to his house to name the commandments and Proctor misses one and that is to not commit adultery which is key because he broke that commandment. Then the court begins to question Proctor on why he does not show up to church any more. Proctor says that all Parris talks about is money and the golden table sticks on the altar and nothing about god. Proctor says that he sees no sense of the lord in Reverend Parris at all. As soon as the witch accusations begin to occur he begins to think that people are crazy and does not believe in any of this nonsense. He also states that all of the girls are acting so they do not get into trouble. Abigail then gets Elizabeth into trouble so he tries to get Mary Warren to tell Danforth they are all lying but Warren tells lies about John Proctor and tells the Reverend false information to get Proctor into trouble. John Proctor is then thrown into jail which concludes to my last
