The effectiveness of an essay can be measured through the clarity and overall structure of the sentences. The writer of the Agatha Christie essay, started with an rhetorical question; "Who does not enjoy a good mystery story?" While rhetorical questions are often prohibited in an essay, the writer was able to place the question in an effective spot, using it as a hook. The introductory paragraph of this essay is greatly effective as it used the upside-down triangle method.
