Nicotine is the addictive chemical found in tobacco smoke which includes cigars, cigarettes, hookahs, and e- cigarette vapors. Nicotine can reach the brain within seven seconds of puffing on anything you can smoke, and that is why doctors say the teenage brain is no place for nicotine to be. The prefrontal cortex is the area of the brain responsible for controlling our wild impulses and emotions. Research shows that is very vulnerable to the effects of nicotine and is especially true for young people. The reason is that this part of the brain does not conclude development until about age twenty-five. Nicotine acts like a key to unlock special receptor molecules on the outside of cells in the brain, which includes those in the prefrontal
